Field Trip to Riverside!

Please join the Southern California chapter of APHA for a weekday outing to the Inland Empire where we'll have to chance to see some fabulous print treasures held at the University of California's eastern campus followed by a lunch at the historic Mission Inn.

Led by APHA's very own Gwido Zlatkes, the Reference Librarian for UCR's Special Collections, and Sara Stilley, Printing and Preservation Specialist, our group will be shown samples from the Petko and Adjarian collections, as well as other treasures within UCR's special collections library.

Thanks to ongoing generous donations by Dr. Edward C. Petko, UC
Riverside has the largest collection of printing presses and type of any American university. These holdings are complemented by another recent gift by Fred and Catherine Adjarian, the son and daughter-in-law of master bookbinder Max Adjarian, which includes binding tools and examples of designer bindings. We'll have the opportunity to see how these collections are used for research and teaching, as well as seeing some of UCR's holdings that are important to the history of printing in California.

There will also be a chance to see Gwido's exhibition, "Clandestine Publications in Poland, 1970s and 1980s" reflecting his involvement in the Solidarity Movement in Poland, celebrating its 30th anniversary thismonth.

The tour will be followed by lunch at Las Campanas Mexican Cuisine at the Mission Inn, just 3 miles from campus.

Detailed directions will be sent to those attending.

Space is limited to 20, APHA members will be given priority Lunch is Dutch treat
