January 2004 Update

Dear Colleagues,

It has been an exciting year for the APHA Oral History Project. We received a $1000 donation from a person who wishes to remain anonimous.

Jenni Matz has donated the transcription of her video interviews with Abe Lerner to our collection and it is going through the indexing process. Jenni contacted me when she was still living in Oregon and I sent her the APHA Interviewer Packet. She has since moved to Boston and is going to continue her interviews of Typophiles, while going to school and working. See APHA NE addenda Report for more on Jenni.

I have just received a tape of the recent Lieberman Lecture, "Making Books: Rocky Stinehour Going Back and Forth with Jerry Kelly" and I hope to get permissions from Jerry and Rocky to have the tape transcribed and entered into our Oral History Archive.

Below is the text of a letter from a Graduate Student in New Zealand who has created a wonderful web based site from his oral histories of printing in New Zealand. I hope that Paul Romaine, our web wizard might put in a link to the site so that our members could view it, and even evaluate it.

Thank you so very much for taking the time to evaluate my project. I just returned to New Zealand, after a brief visit with my family in Michigan. It was great to be back in the good ol USA. At present I am writing up my thesis (40K words). I am honored that you are considering putting a link to my project. I will provide you two links the first to the evaluation version (for those willing to participate in the evaluation) and the standard version (for those who want to just view it).

Here goes:

Evaluation Version:

http://www.intermundi.com/otago/
Evaluation Code: oralHistory
Evaluation Time: 10 minutes

Standard Version:
http://www.intermundi.com/otago/eval.cfm
Flash Player (6 or greater) Required

I want to thank you so very much for your interest! If there is any additional information you may need I would be pleased to provide it.

Cheers,
John Weare

So there's the year in review from the Oral History Project.

Respectfully submitted,
