"Charles Joseph Hullmandel: Lithographic Printer Extraordinary" Michael Twyman is Emeritus Professor in the Department of Typography and Graphic Communication at the University of Reading. A faculty member at the University of Virginia's Rare Book School, he has lectured and written extensively on the history of printing, lithography, and ephemera. The author of John Soulby, Printer (1966), Printing 1770-1970 (1970), The British Library Guide to Printing: History and Techniques (1998), Lithography 1800-1850 (1970), Early Lithographed Books (1990), and Early Lithographed Music (1996), Professor Twyman recently completed and edited Maurice Rickards's The Encyclopedia of Ephemera (2000). In this illustrated lecture, he will discuss the work of Charles Joseph Hullmandel (1789-1850), the author of The Art of Drawing on Stone (1824) and the premier practitioner of lithography in Britain from 1819 to his death.
